Vooraankondiging symposium afscheid Herman Meininger

Ter gelegenheid van het afscheid van Prof.dr. Herman Meininger wordt er op 25 november 2011 een internationale conferentie georganiseerd in de Kerkzaal van de VU in Amsterdam. De titel van deze conferentie luidt “Quality without Inclusion?”.

In various countries in Europe there is a noticeable shift in the discourse on disability services from ‘inclusion’  to ‘quality’. Given the pressure on public funding, the assessment of human  services in terms of their contribution to people’s quality of life has virtually replaced the earlier emphasis on community living and community integration. In terms of core values, this shift appears to prioritize ‘consumer choice’ over ‘social inclusion’ as the main goal of public policy. This suggests the possibility of high quality services without the goal of inclusion. Contributions to the conference will reflect upon this development.
