I am a member of the Philosophy Faculty of the School of Historical, Philosophical, & Religious Studies at Arizona State University.
2. Can you tell us about your research and its relation to the ethics of care?
My earlier research in moral philosophy developed a critical approach to ethical theory that identified impacts of social differences on moral thinking, including philosophical theories of morality.

I am a sociologist, working at the bioethics program at the University of Michigan Medical School. I have appointments in the departments of medical education, obstetrics and gynaecology, and the department of sociology in the College of Literature, Sciences and the Arts.

I am Associate Professor at the Institute for Social Ethics of the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Vienna. From 2007 until 2011 I am also appointed as vice-president of the University of Vienna (Austria) and therefore I am on leave from my educational and research work.

Tijdens mijn werk aan de Universiteit van Tilburg of eerder TFT, en ook nu, na mijn pensionering, word ik vaak uitgenodigd om in Vlaanderen cursussen of lezingen te verzorgen voor vrijwilligers en professionals in de palliatieve zorg. Enkele waarnemingen.

Van januari tot en met juni 2008 verbleef ik voor studie aan het Boston College, USA. Omdat ik ethisch onderzoek doe rond orgaandonatie vanuit een interculturele invalshoek, was en is het voor mij heel belangrijk om verschillende manieren waarop men ethiek kan bedrijven, beter te leren kennen. Bovendien kenmerken de VS zich door een pluralistische samenleving, die al sinds lange tijd bestaat.

Linus Vanlaere is Coördinator Ouderenethiek voor de Groepering van Voorzieningen voor Ouderenzorg (GVO) en wetenschappelijk medewerker aan het Centrum voor Biomedische Ethiek en Recht van de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, waar hij onderzoek verricht naar het zorgethische aspect in de ouderenzorg. Hij is tevens wetenschappelijk medewerker bij zorgethisch lab sTimul.be. Vanlaere is godsdienstwetenschapper en theoloog en promoveerde binnen de zorgethiek.
