Doel van de conferentie was om wetenschappers met elkaar in contact te brengen en plannen te maken voor samenwerking. Dat idee van samenwerking werd door alle deelnemers ondersteund en zal in de nabije toekomst onder meer vorm krijgen in de website Ethicsofcare.org.

This Chair was established by ‘s Heeren Loo, a Dutch service provider for people with intellectual disability, in order to stimulate research and training in the field of ethics and intellectual disability. I am professor of philosophy at the University of Oslo.
2. Can you tell us about your research and its relation to the ethics of care?
I work within the field of moral philosophy, and I focus on the ethics of care in particular. I am interested in exploring the ethics of care along various dimensions: the history of care ethics; the structure, justification and meta-ethical foundation of a normative, feminist ethics of care; and also in the application of care ethics. For me the ethics of care should take place in the form of a reflection on norms. Because we always are indebted to social norms, we have to pay attention to the different ways in which we are governed by those norms and by the ways in return we can try to make something inside a general configuration of norms. Wat is goede zorg in een getraumatiseerd Rwanda?
Voor de pas gearriveerde bezoeker ziet Rwanda er 17 jaar na de genocide niet slecht uit. In de hoofdstad Kigali wordt flink gebouwd aan nieuwe wijken en aan moderne hoogbouw. Ook wordt veel energie en geld besteed aan economische ontwikkeling en onderwijs. Voor degene die wat verder kijkt is de armoede van de bevolking op het platteland schrijnend en blijken in gesprekken met Rwandezen de littekens van de burgeroorlog nog pijnlijk aanwezig. Lees verder
Vooraankondiging symposium afscheid Herman Meininger
Ter gelegenheid van het afscheid van Prof.dr. Herman Meininger wordt er op 25 november 2011 een internationale conferentie georganiseerd in de Kerkzaal van de VU in Amsterdam. De titel van deze conferentie luidt “Quality without Inclusion?”.
In various countries in Europe there is a noticeable shift in the discourse on disability services from ‘inclusion’ to ‘quality’. Given the pressure on public funding, the assessment of human services in terms of their contribution to people’s quality of life has virtually replaced the earlier emphasis on community living and community integration.
